After the recent rash of defection  or should I say defacation of Gloria Arroyo’s stalwarts and supporters, newspaper accounts report her lawyers teling her to shut up and that they don’t have anything on her anyway.

The shutting up part I will agree to. Close your trap (crap???) because it really is causing you more trouble than you’re worth for. Honestly? I would rather you step down from your post as Congressperson (can’t even call you a woman) and just face the music. We are accusing you of a crime, go get your day in court.

At least your predecessor, who might or might not have been better staying where he was before you entered the picture, had the balls to face his music. Oh, forgive me about the balls. You don’t have one. Never did anyways. But your husband should have a set, so where is it.

But the one about not having anything on you, they have tons of evidence against you! Those you tried to destroy or hide during your term. Okay so you were good in math, I mean, by your calculations then, we were making money and your government was in such a good fiscal position.

All else, you screwed. You screwed the civil service, the military, the foreign service, business, hell even the banks.

So now, all these lieutenants of yours coming out of the woodworks are screaming jackals (jackass?) telling tales of woe and misfortune you call liars.

But they were the names that floated during your term were they not. They were the operators, as some of our political friends would say. They did your bidding (or was it yours?) and made themselves rich in the process too. From where, from our money!!! The people’s money!!! Hell if Manny Pacquiao is the People’s Champ for good, they were the people’s champ for rot.

And they all turned into tweety birds.

It was fun with Garcia and his invocation of his right to self incrimination. But you only invoke your right to self incrimination if you may indeed incriminate yourself when you say something, or maybe my logic is flawed. But that is how I see it.

But after Garcia, and seeing that he will go to jail anyway, without honor nor riches, all the others decided to take the safe route and jump ship. All of them tried the formula of success, running for public office, only your family got in. Now where do they go when even your political clout is not strong enough to protect them anymore.

And besides, what the other lame duck in the palace is doing, is trying to pin the blame on you for every wrong thing he does, much as his mother did to Marcos before (of course maybe Cory did have the right, they did shoot Ninoy) so he can have his legacy and eat it too (that did not sound right did it.)

So yes, it’s about getting you, your husband, your sons, your cousins and everyone who got filthy rich wearing branded toenails while you were president. It’s about putting the big fish in the small tank. It’s about leveling the playing field. It’s about all those allegories that we read in the papers every day before we watch the telenovela on TV in either Pasay or Quezon City.

But underneath it all, it’s not about you.

It’s about getting away with it. Stupidity, mediocrity, foolishness, pride, arrogance, and of coure the money. At the end of the day, when you look at all the players sitting on the poker table, they were the same players dealing the cards during your term and Erap’s term, and FVR’s term and Cory’s term and now even Marcoses term.

It is still them at the counting house, counting out the money. And while we poor citizens that need help who voted for them into power struggle day by day, cent by cent, grain by grain and scale by scale, they bandy their callousness on national television pretending to prosecute the guilty for justice.

I have no ending for this piece. The novela is still going on, and now it’s on webcast too. So I have no ending for this except to say it’s really not about you GMA, but you were a huge part of it all.

Hayup!

Ayaw talaga paawat ng mga kumag!

The again….baka naman totoo pala!!!!

Bwahahahahaha…..mwahahahahaha……nyaaaahahahahahahaha…..(fade into silence and black….)

Shoot!

At hayop ang laban, parang PBA finals, may match-up!

Noynoy? Kristeta?  Ballsy? Hello? Ano kaya si Joshua paglaki? (Shwangit??)

But that is besides the point! (mali yung ingles ano?)

So medy0 isip-isip tayo ng konti ulit.

Presidential Coracot and Gago-Gaguhan?)

So sabi nga ni Mike Buffer, “Lets get ready to rumblllllllleee!!!”

Tapos biglang nawala sandali nung mag-retreat.

That is the question. Whether it be for the purpose of correcting a wrong or simply to quench the thirst of a power hungry bloc.

Ever since 1986, a small, manipulative sector of our society has used this threat to keep their hold on power.

In 2001, using the social climbing middle class, this rich-well entrenched sector of society succeeded in kicking out of office a president that was voted in by a true majority.

They could not cheat him of his office, so they waited until they got a chance. They knew he would stumble somewhere. He was not a puppet of the rich, but he was a slave of his vices and vanity. He knew the masses were behind him, so he did not need to play with the rich boys. That was his undoing.

After kicking him out, and the same rich boys seated a woman in Malacanang, another round of People Power happened. This time, it was the real people, the masses who gathered at the EDSA Shrine. Lo and behold, the rich boys called them trash and scum,  not worthy of the title People Power. They were the former president’s lackeys, a swarm of peasants with rights only those the rich ones bestow on them.

Even the Bishops spat on their rights. Told them they had no right to the EDSA Shrine, it was only for the well-dressed, sweet-smelling level of society, not the sweaty, ill-clothed masses of this country.

And the lady president showed her true color. She ordered these citizens to be disbanded, shot even. Nevermind that they were citizens of this land. Nevermind that they were only making themselves heard. Nevermind that they were supporting a legitimate president. Nevermind, they had no say in how this country is run. Only the rich boys had that right.

But the rich boys did not see the writing on the wall. The very person they put in power went after their skin. She cannot be thwarted, what she wants, she gets. Try and go after her, she’ll trample on you.

She will use the police and military to blackmail the rich boys, use the justice department to shut them down, use private armies to hunt them and finally send them to jail, if they don’t leave the country first. And even then, if they have use for those who fled, they got them back here.

How bad was it for the rich boys? One cried foul over a broadband deal, well the whole family is now politically dead. Another called for her ouster, the hacienda got flack. A senator defied her, he still cannot return to the country to this day.

And so they called her evil. Maybe she is. But the bottomline is the rich boys did not have control of her. All her evil deeds do not matter to the rich boys, they would have done the same thing if they had the power. What mattered was that the rich boys do not wield power, and that is an insult they cannot tolerate.

So in this election they pick a loser. One who has enough emotional ties to the Filipino people, but so insignificant in mind, character and achievement that they can tie him up on their pinkie finger. This is so feudal era.

And they believe that because this loser is related to a strong hero, the public will gravitate to him. They use the good vs. evil drama and make the lady president so evil that the whole country hates her.

And the ultimate ace in their hand, the People Power threat. They make it appear that this loser cannot lose. And that if he loses then the election was a fraud, and so there must be people power.

Again, nevermind that only 2500 individuals say the loser is their choice. Nevermind that the basis of their propaganda is a false premise. Nevermind that the Filipino people has yet to make their voice heard.

In the minds of the rich boys, they have another crack at power and they will not let this slip by. So everyone against them is for the lady president. And everyone against their loser is with the lady president. And if anyone else wins, then it was the lady presidents doing. And so the need for people power.

It is flawed logic, i know. But tell that to the people who adore the losers lineage. They are the ones who will suffer, I also know, but they don’t know that. All they see is the color of the sun, shining bright, before it blinds them, and throw them into darkness.

But there is an enlightened majority. The bigger group who are not attracted to the false light. They are the ones who will matter this time. And the rich  boys cannot accept this.

To People Power or not to People Power. It is a question the truly enlightened majority can answer. Do we again fall victim to the propaganda of the rich, and remain enslaved to their interests? Or do we defy their dictates and usher in our own choice.

It does not really matter if our choice is one of their boys again. What matters is that we tell them in no uncertain terms that the choice was ours. This is the first step to freedom from the tyranny of their money. Because, people, we are the majority and they are the minority, and for far too long now, the minority has been our tyrant.

To People Power or NOT To People Power. I vote NOT!!!

Truly the age of information and technology is a boon and a bane.

When we can see in real time how our elected leaders spend their time inside their august halls, it profits us to know if we made the right choices or not. And here the benefits of technology are only too clear.

But when these same leaders begin to act like little children wrestling for control of the schoolyard, we see only a bunch of power-hungry persons trying to play to the emotions of their electorate.

Because, really, all these honorable Senators were doing were grandstanding in an effort to be recognized and hopefully get re-elected in May.

In the old days when it was only necessary to deliver a good speech and hope that your message was brought across successfully to the reporters who were going to write their story, the Senators only needed to give a good pose for the photographers to snap at.

Those were the days when formality and proper decorum were observed inside the halls of congress and profanity and insults were a part of the real world not theirs.

In those days, honorable men would walk up to the lectern and at least pretend that, for a brief period in their lives, they had the honor to represent their constituents and acted in a manner befitting a true representative, with honor and dignity.

But television and live coverages changed all these. When the first congressional hearings went live and the actors, because that is what they have turned into today, found out they garnered more viewers by being dramatic, everything just went haywire.

We see today the Senate and Congress hearing just like we would watch a noontime teleserye or Kris Aquino and her expose’s. And they all contain the same thing, drama without substance, all played out for our entertainment.

Senator Nene Pimentel makes a rude and base aside to Senator Mar Roxas who in turn makes a (bad acting) reaction. Then the whole proceeding explodes into chaos.

Isn’t this something we would see in a tele-novela, when two opposing beings first insult each other and then end up scratching each other up?

Senator Juan Ponce Enrile making an expose’ attacking Manny Villar looks too much like Kris Aquino charging Ayen Austria on SNN.

And mind you, all these examples are on national TV,  espoused and even prayed for by the big networks to milk the ratings. And where do they get the ratings? The same place where the politicos get their votes, from us!

So our lives have fallen to nothing but an act, a big script that needs to be played out, with these politicians as the stars and we are the fans.

I can actually feel for Senator Mirriam Santiago and her decision to just walk out of the proceedings this afternoon if I did not know that she was also playing the audience.

We are now victims of our own technology and the only way out of it is if we can force ourselves from watching these kind of shows and demand for a more substantial content driven programming.

But as it is, we do not direct programming, even if we are the target of these shows. Sad to say we are at the mercy of the programming gurus who decide what we should watch and actually tell’s us so.

And the sadder part is that we enjoy these farce and slapstick. We actually want to see more of these. So here we are, at the receiving end of what should be a wonderful technology but is used as an entertainment tool.

And believe it when we say that that  is all our national leaders are good for. We pay them in the billions of our personal and tax money to entertain us. And they say politics is boring!

Yellow Army on the Offensive

Apparently it is not a good idea to criticize Noynoy Aquino. A few broadcaster friends and some columnists learned this the hard way when their news outfits got bombarded by complaints from supposed Noynoy supporters demanding that all crisiticism of Noynoy be taken out.

These so-called supporters are claiming that any and all negative statements against Noynoy is an affront to the memory of Ninoy and Cory.

Now, while I have yet to establish what Ninoy actually did when alive and what the benefits of the Cory regime were, I really could care less who the parents of a presidential aspirant is.

Even the Kennedy’s could not fall back on the legacy of JFK, and that was a big one.

For Noynoy to use the tactic of eliminating the competition, he is only signing his death warrant. Take off as many critics as you can and you eventually breed more of them. Take the cue from Martial Law.

And this is where being a member of the Yellow Army shows its true color. When I was a kid, being yellow means being a coward. You don’t want to face your enemy so you blast him from behind.

Using your so-called supporters to silence criticism instead of facing it and answering back only shows how scared you are of being exposed.

And then there is the Sister. Now this one is no coward. This one is so brave she will call you out in her program SNN or any other forum that will have her. (Which is mostly on ABS-CBN, a true Aquino crony if there ever was one)

But then again, who fights a woman? Especially one who has so little credibility. Besides, after Robin Padilla, Joey Marquez, that STD thing, a few other husbands and live-ins and finally a jock husband without a job (or maybe there is) why would anyone want to waste their time?

I’m going out of my point. The thing is, don’t hide bro. If you are really as good as you dream you are, hell go for it. Use your talents and abilities, project your accomplishments and show us what you can do.

After all, it is not Cory or Ninoy running for office. It is you. You may be your fathers’ son, but you don’t have the oratorical genius of Ninoy. And you may be your mothers’ son but you are not a housewife up against a dictator.

You are Noynoy Aquino, a congressman who never passed a bill much less a law, a Senator who seemed lost in the august halls of the senate. If you are anything but great, you would actually hand over the reins to Mar Roxas, who, not as great as we would want a candidate to be, do have better credentials than you.

Oh and as for using your Yellow Army, some of whom are from the influential sector of our society, to silence your critics, I suggest rethinking this tact and having your think-tanks do a better strategy.

Work bro. work. And get better people. You are surrounded by imbeciles.

Welcome 2010

PRAYER (1939)
by Francisco Arcellana

Close all open things, Lord
Open all closed things.

All those who have long received, let them give.
All those who have long given, let them receive.
All those too long apart, let them come together.
All those too long together, sunder them.

Let the wise be fools for once, Lord
And let the fools speak their minds.
Affirm the long-denied, Lord
Fulfill the unfulfilled.

I received this Prayer from an old classmate, Allan Refuerzo, in Facebook. Not that I lack for prayers coming from a very devout Roman Catholic family, but this one struck close to my heart. It is a message of change.

I have relinquished the hold of the Roman Catholic Church and converted to a more dynamic church, a Christian church called Victory. It has no denomination, no political affiliation and the Pastors are very alive and dynamic.

Why, some of my more conservative friends ask? And I answer simply this, that we all have to move on in our lives, let go of the past and face the future of possibilities, change what has to change, put on a new raiment and discard the old clothes.

Because some of the old clothes we have  just hold us back from what we truly need to do. Forever? I have always believed that Forever is only as long as my most recent yesterday.

Don’t get me wrong, Victory Christian Fellowship does not veer away from any of the teachings of the Bible or our Lord Jesus Christ. In fact, strange as it may seem to conservatives, this church affirms everything I have learned from every bible school I ever went to since my childhood.

The real difference can be found in the representation of the Lord. Priests are generally self-centered servants of God. No offense but a simple observation. I have yet to see a priest who will willingly relinquish the podium to allow someone else to take centerstage.

Priests also deliver their sermons mainly to themselves. I have probably gone through a whole college of mumbling priests whose words cannot be distinguished all throughout their speech. In fact, I have gone to masses that have foreign priests who can barely speak proper English or Filipino take charge of the mass.

Really, they are supposed to explain the Word of God, and they do it in a manner incomprehensible except to themselves. And finally, I have had my fill of priests using the pulpit to promote their own agenda and political direction.

When the priest from Pampanga decided to “temporarily” discard his robe and run for Governorship and eventually win it, I decided this was too much. In the end of the middle ages, the concept of separation of church and state was developed for good reason, political leaders who can call on the Grace of God for power are very scary people.

My new Pastor is very personal. He does not preach from a pulpit 15 feet high in a cathedral of six thousand persons. He talks to us from a platform a foot high and two feet away. He walks around us and makes sure we understand every word he says. He is a teacher and not a special envoy from God. That role he reserves for Jesus Christ and our faith.

So I go back to the prayer above. Lord close all open things and open all things closed…isn’t it so close to the saying “when the Lord closes a door He opens a new one? But the prayer does not wait, it asks outright.

“All those who have long received, let them give. All those who have long given, let them receive.” An active call for change, for something to be done in our behalf.

“All those too long apart, let them come together. All those too long together, sunder them.” An active call for action, for resolution of a situation.

“Let the wise be fools for once, Lord, And let the fools speak their minds. Affirm the long-denied, Lord, Fulfill the unfulfilled.”

An active call for our lives to move to the better and shake us out of our complacency. This prayer calls for something we always refuse to do, it calls for things to be done, even if it means doing things away from our comfort.

The reason for the prayer? Because when we forget Him, God will always shake us out of our beautiful lives. We ask that the Lord shake us now so we do not forget where all our joy come from. We ask for change now so when change comes we are thankful and not destroyed.

In the New Year to come this is my prayer, for myself and for everyone, that we may actively ask for the change God has planned for us and expect them every day, while continually believing that The Lord will bless us with everything.

A Blessed and Happy New Year to all
